The ancient Greeks believed that purple quartz appeared because of the nymph Amethyst. According to the myth, Bacchus, the god of winemaking, got mad because people forgot him. He came up with a punishment: the first person he met would be torn to pieces by tigers. But the first person he met was a beautiful maiden Amethyst who hurried to the temple of Diana, the goddess of hunting. Diana saved Amethyst from the revenge of Bacchus turning her into a beautiful stone statue. Seeing how terrible his own anger was, Bacchus tried to save the nymph by pouring the wine over the stone like blood. The statue did not come to life. But it changed its color to saturated purple.
Nowadays amethyst is a favorite type of quartz among lovers of jewelry. It can be used for amethyst rings, bracelets or amethyst necklaces both for men and women. Amethyst is a unique crystal that changes color depending on the lighting. The most widespread amethyst shades are pale lilac and violet.
